Dealing with Violence and Aggression

This is a standard Dealing with Violence and Aggression course description for your information - we can ensure that any in-house training is tailored to the needs of your organisation and needn’t be limited to what is described here.

This training enables staff to recognise escalating behaviour and equip staff with the skills to deal with difficult people and de-escalate potentially violent or aggressive situations


On completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Recognise physical and non-physical violence
  • Identify situations that could escalate and take appropriate preventative action, including identifying flash points and triggers
  • Explain what assertiveness is and how helps deal with a violent or aggressive situation
  • Describe the signs of an escalating situation, and recognise signs and signals of this
  • Defuse and de-escalate situations where violence or aggression appearMitigate or avoid risks using risk assessments
  • Explain where dealing with violence and aggression fits within the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Report incidents and near misses
