Beyond involvement: The challenges and opportunities of co-production

Our 2011 client involvement conference took place on 28 June in London.

The conference was a first for Sitra, with a totally new approach to how events are organised – a truly co-produced conference by Sitra and a group of service users drawn mostly from the Westminster Mental Health and Housing Service User Panel.

Sitra annual policy conference and AGM 2011: Getting a grip on the new agenda

This free event for Sitra members took place on 16 February 2011 in  London.

Our policy conference took place just as local authorities all over the country were approving their budgets for 2011/12, national politicians were talking about the opportunities for voluntary and community organisations to run services, and changes to Housing Benefit have left  many of us wondering where the money is going to come from for either our clients’ housing or support.

Health and housing: Keeping the conversation going

Sitra and the National Housing Federation held a series of nine events across the country during November, December 2010 and January 2011. The events were designed to bring together housing and health professionals giving them an opportunity to maintain their dialogue about working together effectively, promoting personalisation and exploring good practice in joint working.

Making a difference: Demonstrating outcomes

Support services have been developing and making use of a range of tools to support their work with clients and to measure the impact that services can make both on the lives of individuals and the wellbeing and cohesion of communities. Now we face significantly reduced budgets as well as the continuing need to improve joint working across disciplines and sectors.

This event took place on 19 January 2011 in London and provided an opportunity to keep up with the latest development.

A Home and a Job

Sitra ran a series of London Regional events in June and July 2010 designed to establish the role of the voluntary sector in securing employment and accommodation for people experiending multiple disadvantage.

Localism: a time for action

Sitra held an event on the 13 July 2010 designed to support providers and commissioners in ensuring housing related support services are prioritised in a climate of public service cuts. The conference recognised that the continuation of preventative services depends on the effectiveness of engagement and influence over local decision making structures.

Young people and accommodation and the implications of G v Southwark

Sitra held three national seminars during April to June 2010 in London York and Birmingham, on the implications of judgment in G v Southwark.

The events had a range of speakers who outlined the judgment and its implications for local authorities and providers. Most importantly, young people from the National Youth Reference Group spoke of what they wanted from statutory and voluntary agencies in terms of services and opportunities to shape policy and practice.

New policy directions and changing interpretation of regulations continue to shape current commissioning and procurement practice. This conference on 16 March 2010 in London brought together providers, commissioners and policy makers to review how these practices enable us to deliver effective and efficient services for people with support and care needs.

Personalisation in practice: Making personalisation a reality for housing, support and care

This major one day event took place on 25 November 2009 at the Westminster Thistle Hotel in London. The event aimed to promote the personalisation agenda in the housing, support and care sector and considered:

  • What progress personalisation is making in housing, care and support sector?
  • What is the role of brokerage and advocacy, and risk and quality assurance in the future of personalisation?
  • Examples of how personalisation is working in practice.

Showcasing event: Delivering for vulnerable people in our communities

Held on 8 October 2009 in York and 14 October 2009 in London, this conference was organised by Sitra, in a unique partnership with the CLG, CIH, NHF and with support from ADASS, to showcase the positive contribution housing with care and support can continue to make to local communities.

Lord McKenzie, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at CLG and DWP with responsibility for housing support and care, delivered the keynote address at the London event.
