Sitra is pleased to be part the Driving up Quality Alliance, which was formed last year to bring together providers and umbrella organisations concerned about the abuse of people with learning disabilities which was unearthed as part of the investigation into Winterbourne View private hospital.
The alliance has been working together over the last year to produce a self assessment tool specifically aimed at services that work with people with challenging behaviour who have longstanding and complex support needs.
The toolkit provides excellent examples of what good services look like, and organisations are encouraged to take on board the challenge of the Driving Up Quality Code.
Sitra are encouraging all our members who work with people with learning disabilities to consider how they might use the code to improve the services that they offer.
The code asks providers to make a commitment to listen to the people they support and support them to build lives that have meaning for them.
We will be contacting members directly about the code, but would encourage you to take a look at what the code has to offer and sign up.
We are responsible for the maintenance or improvement of quality, please contact us with any queries or concerns.
