Good practice in joint commissioning

The Communities and Local Government Select Committee on Supporting People heard evidence that the decision making and delivery structures that had been developed for Supporting People were so effective they should be considered as a blue print for partnership working in localities.

As part of their work gathering and examining information on commissioning structures and engagement with partners Sitra has identified a number of examples of joint commissioning. The following can be used to support local authorities and their partners in improving their commissioning practices.  The LGiU recent survey on local authority response to cuts found that 95 percent of leaders were planning to share services and 48 percent were planning to use charities to save money. Hopefully these examples will demonstrate that initiatives in commissioning Supporting People can lead the way to more effective use of public resources in these austere times.
