New Care Standards

The Health and Social Care Act 2008 introduced a new, single registration system that applies to both healthcare and adult social care. From 1 October 2010, adult social care and independent healthcare providers that carry on regulated activities must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The definition of personal care has been extended to include prompting and supervision of personal care activities. Although the CQC has advised that it is not intended that all encouraging and reminding in relation to personal care should become a regulated activity, some support providers who did not have to register under the previous legislation may be affected by this extended definition.

Scope of registration: Frequently Asked Questions

We have brought together all the questions asked by providers at our joint events with the Care Quality Commission and through our helpline.

QAF & CQC read across

To support joint commissioning and to streamline monitoring for those providers who do come within the scope of both housing related support and care frameworks, we have worked with the CLG and CQC on reading across from the Quality Assessment Framework to the CQC Standards. Our briefing on read across is available here.
