The aim of the course is to develop participants understanding of the client groups and to equip them with an understanding of effective principles and good practice in delivering support services. The course will support colleagues in recognising the difficulties in providing support services and will also assist all practitioners to reflect upon their own practices.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Understand many of the ?social? characteristics of offenders and ex-offenders 
  • Contribute to an informed discussion on some of the causes and effects of offending
  • Recognise some of the key challenges facing offenders/ex offenders in developing independent living skills
  • Identify some of the key support needs of offenders and ex-offenders including ?secondary? support needs
  • Understand some of the current measures and tools used to reduce (re) offending
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles involved in measuring risk
  • Understand the importance of professional boundaries and the role of confidentiality.
