Sitra Policy conference and AGM 2012: Coming Off The Ropes?
8 February 2012, Resource for London
2012 Sitra AGM

Non-members* £130
2012 will be another critical year for our sector. The housing care and support world has undergone a significant period of change and although backed into a corner, providers and commissioners have continued to demonstrate much resilience and ingenuity in the face of adversity. The challenge is on for our sector to re-group, and in 2012 to begin to make a comeback and to come off the ropes fighting strong.

Sessions
In the morning session you will hear Lewisham MP Heidi Alexander from the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Committee say whether she thinks the Coalition has kept its promise to protect the most vulnerable. Speakers such as Annys Darkwa, founder and Managing Director of Vision Housing, will talk about how they have developed new services in spite of the pressures on public spending. You will also hear how some general needs housing providers have started looking at setting up their own in-house floating support services funded from the savings they deliver.
After lunch Mike Short from Unison and Helen Giles from Broadway will look at what has been happening to staff pay, terms and conditions and what can be done about it.
In the final session Professor Peter Ambrose from the Pro-Housing Alliance argues that housing matters! We can only improve health if we tackle housing; and people who have experienced housing support remind us it works and why we have to find ways of continuing to provide it.
Other features of the day
Sitra’s Annual General Meeting will happen during the lunch break
Sitra’s Policy Team will offer a surgery during the breaks
