Housing Related Support

Providers of housing related support need to be able to demonstrate the value of the services they provide, the contributions they make to local priorities and the benefits for users. Sitra have identified there are a number of ways in which to do this and have developed factsheets to support providers and commissioners of housing related support in doing this. The most common tool used is the Cap Gemini cost benefit model which identifies the costs that have been avoided for example residential care by the investment in social housing. The national research demonstrated that on an investment of £1.6 billion the net financial benefit is £3.44 billion was realised, the tool has also been designed to be used locally. Detailed below is another resource that can be used to show the wider benefits of housing related support providers not just in savings to the public purse but in terms of the value to wider stakeholders including family/carers and the community.

Social Return on Investment

The Social Return on Investment tool has been developed to help organisations demonstrate the value and outcomes of their services.

Sitra has put together a briefing of the tool and designed an Impact Map template for housing related support providers and commissioners. The workbook also contains a worked example of an Impact Map for a learning disability service.
