Local Strategic Engagement Project (LSEP)

About the LSEP project

In 2009-2010, Sitra was funded by Communities and Local Government (CLG) in order to promote the effective engagement of housing related support providers, commissioners and users in strategic planning and service commissioning. In addition the work, which was known as the Local Strategic Engagement Project (LSEP), aimed to support providers in developing mechanisms for engaging in Local Strategic Partnerships and to ensure that housing related support is understood within Local Strategic Partnerships and that housing related support services continue to be effectively commissioned and provided.

Commissioning structures

The project aimed to identify the issues involved in commissioning HRS comparing and contrasting existing and proposed structures of commissioning.

Engagement

Providers and users need to appreciate how decisions on the planning and commissioning of services might be taken in their locality to enable them to engage and influence local strategic partnerships and other local decision making structures.

Housing Related Support

Providers of housing related support need to be able to demonstrate the value of the services they provide, the contribution they make to local priorities and the benefits to users.

The work of the LSEP culminated in a number of resources to support local strategic engagement including Navigating the Maze: A guide on engaging with and influencing local governance and commissioning structures.

The local strategic engagement work is now core to the services that Sitra deliver and both central and regional staff will be contributing towards supporting both providers and commissioners respond to the localism agenda. For more information on this contact sueb@sitra.org
